Reflections on Alumni Weekend 2024

In April, Feinberg School of Medicine held its annual alumni reunion which featured the panel discussion “Breaking Barriers” with leaders from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. During this session, panelists discussed the strides made with other members of the diverse alumni community at Feinberg.

Former Associate Dean of Minority Affairs Honored with Portrait at Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital

Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital recently unveiled the portrait of Tacoma McKnight, ’81 BS, ’83 MD (HPME), ’87 GME, in a special ceremony. The second Black woman to become an Obstetrics & Gynecology resident at Prentice Women's Hospital, McKnight went on to become the first Black woman to join the faculty at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and later served as the inaugural associate dean for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (formerly known as the Minority and Cultural Affairs Office). Her legacy now graces the halls of the hospital, symbolizing progress and dedication to diversity in medicine.

Health Equity Week

McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University held its fourth annual Health Equity Week February 26 to March 1. The week featured a wide range of sessions designed to foster expert-level discussions on healthcare disparities and brainstorm solutions to promote health equity. The event was open to all members of the community, emphasizing inclusivity and collaboration in tackling crucial healthcare challenges.

NUDOCS Program Welcomes Its Largest Cohort of 21 Students

Presented by the Feinberg School of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion in partnership with Northwestern University Health Professions Advising and Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences, NU DOCS is designed to nurture and equip students for roles as patient-centered leaders and future physicians through a structured pathway system and diverse programming.

David Ramirez, MD, Honored as a ‘40 Under 40’ Leader by the National Minority Quality Forum

In March, David Ramirez, MD, assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, received the National Minority Quality Forum's "40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health" Award for his groundbreaking contributions in pediatric and adult ophthalmology and his pioneering research on social determinants of health (SDOH) and amblyopia in children.

At this year's Honors Day celebration, an annual event which highlights the academic and clinical excellence of fourth year medical students and faculty members, Michael Chidueme was honored with the Daniel Hale Williams Diversity & Inclusion Award. This recognition celebrates his outstanding contributions to promoting diversity and inclusion at Feinberg School of Medicine.
