Staff Profile

Takelia Walker is an associate department administrator in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Feinberg. A lifelong Chicagoan, Walker was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and has been with Northwestern since 2008.

Where is your hometown?

I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago.

What led you to Northwestern?

I heard about the outstanding culture nurtured at Northwestern and I had to be a part of it. I had recently left another university in Chicago for post-secondary education and was hired for an accounting assistant in the Department of Psychology on the Evanston Campus in 2008. Since joining the Feinberg community in 2010, I have grown and been promoted within the university.

What are you currently working on?

My work has shifted to year-end close and reflecting on current processes and improvements for fiscal year 2025. My day-to-day responsibilities are overseeing the research administration enterprise for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and providing support to our faculty. I am fortunate to work with Dr. Bulun, Aura Reitneris and my team as we support the mission of women’s health.

How does your work support the research enterprise at Feinberg?

I collaborate with our investigators, research administrators, central offices and colleagues across Feinberg to ensure we have the administrative support and resources to follow compliance within the scope of research per sponsor guidelines. This also includes annual space allocations and financial operations.

Why do you enjoy working at Northwestern?

I enjoy working at Northwestern for the camaraderie. I am constantly learning from peers and mentors and able to share my knowledge with others. I truly feel supported in my career endeavors at Northwestern where I have been able to strengthen my skillset and grow from opportunities that I have been presented.
