New Faculty

Katherine Borden, PhD, joined Feinberg as Hospira Foundation Professor of Translational Cancer Biology in November 2024. Her lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms and impact of dysregulated RNA metabolism in cancer focusing on Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She has unearthed novel modes by which cancer cells hijack genetic information, in the form of messenger RNA, and demonstrated new mechanisms by which RNA maturation and RNA export influence cell physiology and support cancer growth.

Previously, she was professor at University of Montreal in Quebec, Canada for more than two decades. She has received many awards for this work including selected as a Stohlman Scholar of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society USA, Distinguished Scientist of the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation, CSMB Canadian Science Publishing Senior Investigator Award and was inducted as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2022 and as Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
