FAQ for Faculty & Staff

How do I obtain access to edit faculty profiles?

Northwestern medical faculty can update their faculty profile any time and as often as they like using the Feinberg Faculty Portal. It is the responsibility of faculty members to add content and build a profile that reflects their contributions to Feinberg and their specialty.

Feinberg department administrators and their delegates may have access to edit the profiles for faculty in their department (or specific divisions, if applicable). To request access, the department administrator should send an email to fao@northwestern.edu providing the name, netID and email address of the individual authorized to have access. If a department has divisions and access should be restricted to specific divisions, please indicate that as well. Please note that the medical school is unable to limit access to specific faculty profiles; access can only be granted at the department or division level.

A new faculty member doesn’t have a profile. What’s wrong?

A profile will only display if a faculty member has an active appointment in the faculty database maintained by the Faculty Affairs Office (FAO). Please submit all the documentation needed to finalize the faculty appointment to FAO far enough in advance so that it can be approved in time for the faculty member's start date.

Additionally, faculty profiles will not display on the website in advance of a faculty member's appointment start date, even if all appointment documentation has been approved and finalized.

The profile for an existing faculty has disappeared. What’s wrong?

A faculty profile will only display if a faculty member has an active appointment in the faculty database maintained by the Faculty Affairs Office (FAO). Administrators should submit reappointment documents well in advance of the current appointment's end date so that there is no lapse in the display of a faculty profile. If a current appointment expires, the profile will disappear and will not reappear until after the reappointment has been processed.

How do I add a photo to a profile?

Faculty members are encouraged, but not required, to display their photo on their profile:

  • All faculty may attend regularly scheduled photo shoots to obtain a professional headshot. More information including the photo shoot schedule is on the Managing Your Online Presence page on FAOs site. These photos will be uploaded to profiles by the Faculty Affairs Office.
  • Alternatively, faculty and administrators may send a photo to fao@northwestern.edu to be posted to a faculty profile.  All photos will be reviewed for:
    • Appropriateness
    • Minimum size of 160px X 240px; photos can be bigger, but not smaller
    • Accepted formats: jpg, jpeg, pjpeg, png, gif

Can I link to my personal website from my faculty profile?

Faculty may include links to their professional websites if the site is approved by the Faculty Affairs Office. FAO and the Office of Communications reserve the right to remove any site that does not meet any of the following faculty site guidelines.

  1. Only sites predominantly focused on research or education topics with a direct connection to Northwestern University and/or Feinberg will be considered (not personal clinical sites, not sales sites, etc.)
  2. The site should not be primarily about selling books/videos/anything for personal gain — those types of sites can exist, they just should not have an Northwestern University and/or Feinberg connection
  3. The site can, but does not need to be, Northwestern University and/or Feinberg branded
  4. If the site includes an Northwestern University and/or Feinberg logo, it must be reviewed by the Office of Communications for approval
  5. The site will need to meet the Office of Communications general content guidelines and comply with the Feinberg patient care content directive/be clearly labeled as a lab or education site
  6. If the site includes a link for donations, the link must go to the Feinberg giving site, not directed to personal research

FAQ for the Public

How do I contact a faculty member?

Faculty profiles include each faculty member's preferred contact information. Please contact faculty at the phone number or email address they have displayed on their profile.

How do I schedule a doctor's appointment for medical care?

Northwestern University is an educational and research institution. The faculty of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine provide patient care through affiliated hospitals and clinics. Faculty profiles include links to the websites of the Feinberg-affiliated medical care sites where each faculty member practices. Please visit these websites for information about obtaining medical care or scheduling a doctor's appointment. Some faculty also display a clinic phone number in their contact information which can be used for patient inquiries.

For an overview of the Feinberg-affiliated medical care sites, please visit our Patient Care page.
