About Us
Anesthesiologists are perioperative physicians dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care for patients before, during, and after surgery. Anesthesiologists manage a complex array of physiological parameters and their fluctuations in surgical patients. They are the doctors especially focused on optimizing overall perioperative patient safety. Anesthesiologists can prescribe and provide a variety of anesthetic types, including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and sedation, as appropriate for the patient and procedure. Many anesthesiologists also subspecialize and focus on unique areas within the perioperative domain, including cardiac, neurosurgical, regional, obstetric, pediatric, critical care and pain management anesthesia. The Department of Anesthesiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is committed to improving the future of this field through innovative research and the development of future leaders through our educational programs.
We strive to be a preeminent academic department as a leader in discovery, innovative patient-centered care and by training the next generation of exceptional clinicians.”
