Transdisciplinary Collaboration

Building spaces for diverse perspectives.

We are focused on uniting faculty and trainees across social science, data science and population health. We do this by supporting transdisciplinary spaces where people with diverse perspectives—including data scientists, domain experts and community members—can gather, build relationships and learn to speak each other’s languages. We prioritize activities that connect across the Chicago and Evanston campuses of Northwestern University and bring health experts and community experts into conversations with analytic experts.

For an example of this strategy, read about our Bias in Big Data workshop held with our collaborator, the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing.

This work is aligned with the Northwestern strategic plan and addresses key gaps within AI and data science (e.g., bias, data quality and the meaningful integration of often excluded disciplines and communities from this work).
