Providing a strong foundation in core genetic counseling skills.

Director's Message
Northwestern University’s Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling at the Center for Genetic Medicine provides a strong foundation in core genetic counseling skills and identifies each student’s strengths in order to ignite the passion and lifelong commitment to learning that is critical to professional development. Graduates not only feel extremely capable in multiple clinical settings and specialties, but also recognize how valuable their training has been in preparing them for expanded genetic counseling careers.

The field of genetics has evolved rapidly over time, and graduate programs need to be aware of the changes that will continue to shape and influence the profession. Since the inception of the program in 1990, our program has continually evolved to meet these changing needs and keep an eye to the future of the profession.

About the Program

Life After Graduation

Northwestern takes a unique and progressive approach to training future genetic counselors, stressing professional development and personalized medicine, which continues to inspire me in my current position. I am so grateful for my time at Northwestern and look forward to seeing the program grow and lead to many more genetic counselors who will take our field into the future of healthcare.

Lauren Siems, Class of 2016

My time at Northwestern provided me amazing exposure to a wide variety of clinic settings and counseling experiences. I also learned a great deal about clinical research and have been able to apply this experience to my position in an academic medical center.

Jessica Stoll, Class of 2014

Northwestern prepared me to be more than just a clinician and researcher. I can proudly call myself a leader and a teacher thanks to the professional development skills I learned as a student and continue to learn as a core faculty member of the Northwestern GPGC program.

Allison Goetsch, Class of 2014
