Program Director's Message
We are delighted that you are interested in the Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MS-HPE).
Teaching is an integral activity in academic medicine, and many healthcare professionals are drawn to education. Few, however, are given instruction in learning theory or teaching techniques that allow them to be truly exceptional medical educators. Furthermore, those who want to advance their careers with educational scholarship are rarely mentored and developed as deliberately as clinical researchers. The past several years have seen significant changes in education across all levels, and rapidly evolving technology is likely to continue to impact how and what we teach. Medical educators everywhere are recognizing the need for flexibility and adaptation to changing environments and learners’ needs. As we evolve our approach to curriculum delivery and assessment, educators must be aware of, and comfortable with, education technology and its applications. Additionally, the need for content and expertise on achieving equity in health professions education has never been higher as the diversity of our learners grows.
This master’s program is designed to empower you as an effective educator and scholar. We place special emphasis on your proficiency in using in using modern educational technology and creating an inclusive educational environment. A mentored research project will draw upon methods taught in several scholarship-focused courses and culminate in a capstone presentation. You will graduate with the tools and resources to build impactful educational programs for the next generation of health care professionals.
