Program Director's Message
Thank you for your interest in our combined residency program, and congratulations on pursuing pediatric rehabilitation medicine. You have several excellent options in your pursuit of pediatric physiatry. I am proud to offer a comprehensive training program that provides eligibility to sit for the American Board of Pediatrics Board Examination, the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Board Examination, and the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation's Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Subspecialty Board Examination.
You will find the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University has fantastic opportunities to support your specific interests through their clinical scholar tracks, research support, simulation-based learning opportunities and diverse patient population. At Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, among the leading cutting-edge institutions regionally and nationally, we believe pediatric medicine isn't just a profession; it's a calling. We are deeply committed to providing the highest standard of care tailored specifically to children's unique needs. From pioneering treatments to compassionate support, every decision we make is guided by our dedication to improving the health and happiness of young patients.
The Shirley Ryan Abilitylab, the number one ranked rehabilitation hospital for over 30 consecutive years, attracts a large variety of patient diagnoses from around the world and offers fantastic multidisciplinary rehabilitation team members to learn from and collaborate with. You will form lifelong relationships with our fantastic, dedicated faculty, who are consistently rated the greatest strength of the program by PM&R and pediatric residents respectively.
Chicago will win you over with its food, parks, beaches, architecture and neighborhoods. However, beyond the bustling city environment and world-class medical training, it is the people—patients, families, colleagues, mentors, students—that have made the Feinberg School of Medicine community feel like home for me since I arrived in Chicago years ago for my own intern year.
Our program seeks to recruit compassionate, hard-working, diverse residents with a growth mindset. You have already accomplished so much, but we can ensure you leave here with the ability to competently and confidently provide care to any child. Please explore our website to learn more about our program. Our field is small, and wherever you train, I look forward to working with you in the future!
Sincerely,
Emily Kivlehan, MD
