Artist's comments: I am a research tech in Dr. Kathy Green's laboratory in the Department of Pathology. Orchids are my favorite flower. When I was growing up, my mom had a collection of orchids. That's when I started to appreciate their beauty. They're one of the most delicate plants and not very easy to grow. It takes a lot of effort and attention to keep the orchids alive and growing. I have several kinds of orchids growing in my room; it's my own little collection. Last summer when the orchids were in bloom, I decided to paint an orchid on canvas so when the plants are no longer in bloom, I'll have the orchid painting to look at and brighten my room.
