In this episode we share a recent Northwestern Medical Grand Rounds presentation called: "COVID-19 An Update on the Current Situation" which was given at Northwestern Medicine on March 17, 2020 by Michael Ison, MD, professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Professor of Surgery in the Division of Transplant Surgery at Northwestern.

Speaking to a group of Northwestern Medicine physicians, Michael Ison, MD, MS, first discusses the virology and epidemiology of COVID-19. Then, he delves into available literature and talks about predictors of patient outcome and strategies to manage patients with the infection as well as prevention strategies.
He highlights a number of different vaccine platforms that are being developed. Ison is chair of the Adaptive COVID-19 clinical trial through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases' Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Also highlighted is the compassionate use protocol approved at Northwestern Medicine for patients who are COVID-19 positive and meet certain guidelines.
