FAME membership applications are accepted annually each summer for review by the Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators (FAME) Membership Committee. 

The 2024 application cycle will be open from July 16, 2024 to August 5, 2024.

Member Eligibility

Anyone who teaches within the Feinberg School of Medicine may be eligible for membership. In addition to faculty educators, FAME accepts students and trainees who have distinguished themselves in health professions education. Once they are accepted into the academy, FAME members are expected to contribute their time and talent in service of the medical school.

Membership Criteria

Applicants for FAME Membership will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Mandatory: 

  • Educational excellence - Applicants must demonstrate excellent teaching effectiveness by submitting data from evaluations from their learners, any teaching awards, and/or any visiting professorships regarding educational work

Supportive:

  • Applicants must demonstrate impact of their work in medical education scholarship
  • Formal Educational Development – Completion of the Searle Fellowship, FAME Health Professions Educator Clinical Scholars Program, or advanced degree
  • Editorial activities for educational journals or grants
  • Evidence of excellent mentorship of junior colleagues
  • Educational Leadership role(s)
  • Development of new methods or innovations in teaching which may include new curricula or innovative curricular changes, new technologies in teaching, new Assessment methodologies

Letter of Recommendation Requirements

  • At least 1 letter
  • Recommender should be a professional who knows the applicant well, such as a professor, supervisor, division head, department chair, colleague…etc.
  • The recommender's credentials and position should be relevant and respected within the field and can attest to the applicants’ teaching abilities

Member Expectations

FAME membership is valid for four years and reviewed twice annually. Once members are accepted into the academy, they are expected to contribute their time and talent in service of the medical school. Contact us with questions about membership.

 

FAME Application Requirements

  1. Your CV

Please be sure your CV highlights* your educational contributions expertise. For example:

  • Direct teaching and learner assessment
  • Curricular development
  • Mentoring
  • Scholarship in medical education
  • Leadership and administration
  • Teaching/educational research
  • Professional development in health professions education
  • Teaching awards
  • Other areas you deem important

*When submitting application, please mark in yellow the items you would like to highlight for the Membership Selection Committee.

  2. Letter of Recommendation

Please submit at least one letter of recommendation. The letter should highlight your unique contributions and impact on medical education at Feinberg. The recommender should be able to speak to the teaching effectiveness, scholarship and other accomplishments of the applicant in the field of health professions education.

 3. Letter of Intent

In 1,000 words or less, please summarize your main educational contributions and/or scholarship. Please highlight the positive impact of your efforts on the educational landscape at Feinberg and your potential contributions as a FAME member. Please draw attention not only to key aspects of the DTP or your CV, but also other significant and sustained contributions that may be underrepresented in other parts of the application, such as sustained excellence in clinical teaching or significant efforts that promote equity and contribute to a positive learning environment at Feinberg.
