Promotion Resources

FAME's promotion resources are designed for those pursuing advancement along the Clinician-Educator (CE) track. These resources are best followed in tandem with the Faculty Affairs Office (FAO) information on Faculty Promotion & Tenure. FAME provides examples of achievement in the education domain along with our advice and resources in the FAME Guide to Getting Promoted (pdf).

The FAME Guide to Getting Promoted

This guide details recommended activities for CE track faculty to achieve promotion through scholarship, recognition and leadership, and professional service. For the full list of recommendations, please download the FAME Guide to Getting Promoted. We recommend viewing this guide in detail.

Faculty Affairs Office Resources

The Faculty Affairs Office site contains the most current information about promotion. Explore their site's many resources to support faculty in the promotion process, including:

Preparing a Great Packet

FAO offers tips and guidelines for packet preparation, including templates for creating a CV, personal statement, record of teaching, and letters of support. FAME also recommends the following:

  • Discuss your promotion readiness with your Department Chair or Division Chief roughly two years prior to your anticipated promotion, during the annual review process if able
  • Allocate spending three to six months preparing your application prior to submission, anticipating the deadline within your department for review
  • Adhere to the promotion application timeline, milestones, and key dates provided by FAO
  • Keep your CV and Interfolio current and up to date, as living documents
  • Follow the Feinberg format for CVs and ensure that you do not have typos in your packet. Have a vigilant colleague proofread for you before submitting.
  • Number your publications and presentations, and bold your name in each publication listing.
  • Follow the personal statement template. Those reviewing your personal statement will not necessarily be familiar with your area(s) of clinical or scholarly expertise. Please explain precisely.
  • Follow the stipulations for who can write letters of support from peer institutions for your applications.

FAME Promotion Advising and Peer Groups

Feinberg faculty can request a FAME promotion advisor as well as a peer group to help navigate this process. A FAME promotion advisor is a current FAME member who has been promoted at Feinberg and trained to help you move along the pathway. FAME peer groups are for faculty who would like to apply for promotion and work with a group of peers for advice and motivation along the way.
