Transplant Nephrology Fellowship

Our Transplant Nephrology Fellowship provides trainees the opportunity to gain knowledge, procedural skills, interpersonal skills, professionalism and practical experience to become an independent and highly qualified transplant nephrologist.

Curriculum

We have a comprehensive educational curriculum which is endorsed by the American Society of Transplantation (AST), and graduates will be qualified to head UNOS approved transplant nephrology programs.

The fellows gain knowledge and experience caring for a diverse population of patients. Inpatient training includes daily multi-disciplinary rounds attended by transplant nephrologists, surgeons, hepatologists, critical care and infectious diseases physicians, pharmacists, nutritionists and social workers. Fellows round on post-op kidney and multi-organ transplant recipients and also care for post-transplant recipients hospitalized with complex medical issues. Outpatient clinics include pre- and post- transplant care for living donors and transplant recipients. We also perform kidney transplant biopsies in clinic, and have a weekly transplant renal pathology conference. Fellows have an extensive didactic lecture series, including instruction in transplant immunology. They attend weekly selection committee meetings and  morbidity/mortality conferences. Faculty members from Comprehensive Transplant Center serve as mentors and role models in clinical care, professionalism and research.

The fellows attend organ procurement and transplant surgeries to gain a thorough understanding of surgical issues related to care of kidney transplant recipients and allow UNOS certification.
