XXIV Great Lakes Transplant Immunology Incubator Forum
History
The first forum, originally called the Erie Transplant Forum, was organized by the late Keith Bishop and held at Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2000. The Forum was a brainchild of the late Charley Orosz, together with Keith Bishop and Robert Fairchild. Charley was a visionary who believed that the best science occurs after much discussion and debate among friendly but opinionated transplant immunologists, and over good food and drinks.
We have seen changes to this meeting, with some people moving from the Great Lakes to further away places, and others becoming new members. Those who moved away continued to participate in the meeting and introduced their new collaborators, while those moving into the Great Lakes region brought new ideas that have invigorated the meeting. Through these changes, what has persevered is the spirit of rigorous discussion, friendship, and collaboration. We know that this was what Charley and Keith had envisioned, and it is what we value most in this regional meeting. The broadening of participants prompted the first change in name in 2003 to Great Lakes Transplant Immunology Forum.
Over the past 23 years, the GLTIF has served as an incubator for new research ideas and faculty, by providing constructive feedback from a group of highly engaged transplant immunologists and networking opportunities. This meeting also provides an opportunity to trainees to showcase new data and receive critical feedback in well-attended poster sessions, and see their work presented by their PIs. To emphasize these priorities, the GLTIF will be renamed as Great Lakes Transplant Immunology Incubator Forum (GLTIIF).
The Chicago team is thrilled to host the XXII GLTIIF on Aug 26-27, 2024, at Northwestern University, in the vibrant Chicago downtown and by the beautiful Lake Michigan. We are committed to preserving the "small meeting" vibe, so please register early as the meeting will be capped at 75 attendees.
