Faculty
Recruiting and retaining top-tier scientists is a priority at the medical school as we seek to expand our research programs and accelerate our progress. The long-term success of our medical research enterprise depends on our ability to provide the intellectual environment and resources necessary to recruit outstanding new physician-scientists.
Recruitment
We are actively recruiting ambitious investigators who are developing international reputations in their areas of study. At the same time, we are competitively seeking senior scientists who are firmly established as leaders and trailblazers in their fields and who have significant external grant funding already in place.
Private gifts provide “start-up” packages to attract these sought-after academicians to Northwestern and equip them for their investigations. Recruitment costs include furnishing initial salaries and providing support for the necessary resources to establish these scientists in a laboratory setting. In most cases, mid- and senior-level investigators will immediately bring additional resources to the university in the form of grants from their previous institutions.
Professorships
A named and endowed professorship, created in perpetuity, represents the highest honor a university can bestow upon its faculty. These positions represent the pinnacle of academic achievement and excellence and are reserved for our most distinguished and productive physicians and scientists. They carry great prestige and impact for the benefactor, the appointed holder of the professorship, and the university and medical school.
The creation of named and endowed professorships is enormously important as the Feinberg School of Medicine endeavors to double the research enterprise and rise in the competitive pantheon of research-intensive schools. As we move forward, these singular positions will enable us to attract and recruit world-class investigators to Northwestern and encourage their active collaboration with faculty at the medical school and across the Northwestern campus.
