Fifteen Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine faculty members recently appointed endowed professorships were formally recognized at a group investiture ceremony on Sept. 5.

“Endowed professorships are one of the highest honors bestowed on our faculty,” Eric G. Neilson, MD, vice president for Medical Affairs and Lewis Landsberg Dean, said during his opening remarks at the event, held at The Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. “These precious endowments support the excellence and creativity of the university and are proud moments of recognition for the school of medicine.”

Feinberg has nearly 240 endowed professorships, which represent the pinnacle of academic achievement and excellence and are reserved for the medical school’s most distinguished and productive physicians and scientists. They carry great prestige and impact for the benefactor, the appointed holder of the professorship, and the University.

Left to right: Marianne Green, MD, vice dean for Education and the chair and Raymond H. Curry, MD, Professor in the Department of Medical Education; Dr. Brannigan; and Adam Murphy, MD, MBA, MSCI, who was vested as the Distinguished Professor of Health Equity Research in Urology

At the ceremony, Robert E. Brannigan '92 MD, ’93 ’94 ’98 GME, was invested as the inaugural Janice Binstein Professor of Urology. The professorship, established in 2024, was made possible by a generous donor in gratitude to Ted Schaeffer, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Urology, and in recognition of the department’s tripartite focus on teaching, research, and patient care.

"Being awarded the Janice Binstein Professorship in Urology is a profound honor,” said Dr. Brannigan, vice chair of Clinical Urology and chief of Male Reproductive Medicine and Men's Health in the Department of Urology. “I have dedicated my career at Northwestern to male reproductive surgery and medical education, and I will continue to do so thanks in large part to this professorship.”

Dr. Brannigan’s clinical focus is on male reproductive medicine and surgery, and his research into fertility preservation aims to optimize care to adolescents and adults with cancer diagnoses. He also serves as assistant director of Student Affairs at Feinberg.
