Health Equity Programs

The Office of Health Equity at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine offers several programs that aim to create community on campus, highlight current health equity topics and support all students on the pathway to medicine. Find the program that's right for you.

For High School Students

  • Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP): HPREP is a five-week program for high school students in Chicago Public Schools who are looking for an introduction to medical education and healthcare careers.
  • NM GCM Grosvenor Scholars Program: The Northwestern Medicine Scholars Program offers high school students from partner schools opportunities to explore and prepare for careers in medicine and biomedical science.
  • STEM Pathways: A variety of health and medicine pathway programs are available for learners as young as kindergarten to those at the graduate level.

For Undergraduate Students

  • NU Docs: NU Docs provides Northwestern University undergraduates with an immersive opportunity to engage with medical students, residents and physicians.
  • NM Pre-Med Gap Year Program: The Northwestern Medicine Pre-Medical Gap Year Internship Program places exceptional pre-med students in clinical settings for 13 months, where they work, conduct research and attend faculty-led lectures.
  • NM Pre-Med Intern Program: The Northwestern Medicine Pre-Medical Internship Program provides opportunities for promising undergraduate students to experience both clinical observation and focused project work.

The Office for Health Equity is developing a single-model mentorship program for all students seeking support in Feinberg programs. Faculty Career Development

The Faculty Affairs Office at Feinberg connects faculty with innovative institutional initiatives in hiring, mentoring, promotion and tenure, evaluation, and institutional accountability. These efforts include our NU-LEAP faculty development program and our career resources directory.

For Staff

  • Staff Affinity Groups: Find support from Northwestern University staff organizations formed around shared identities.
  • Year Up: Northwestern partners with Year Up, a skills-training program for underserved young adults.
  • Staff Engagement Committee: The committee offers professional development and partners with our office for health equity programming.
