Windows 7 End of Life Project
We are sorry to announce that Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system has gone End of Life and as such, it will no longer be supported.
What does End of Life mean to me?
- PCs running Windows 7 no longer receive security updates. Therefore, it's important that you upgrade to a modern operating system such as Windows 10, which can provide the latest security updates to help keep you and your data safe. In addition, Microsoft customer service is no longer available to provide Windows 7 technical support.
What should I do?
There are 2 options for your Windows 7 devices:
Decommission
- Completely remove the device from service and no longer use it. FSM IT will help you decommission and dispose of the equipment properly
New computer purchase
- Purchase a new computer that will arrive pre-loaded with a new and supported operating system. FSM IT has tested and selected a variety of computers for use in our environment. Please review them here: https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/it/purchasing/hardware.html
If you need help deciding or are ready to proceed, then please feel free to reach out to FSM IT at FSMHelp@northwestern.edu to start the process.
Thank you,
Feinberg IT
