Medical Education Committees

Feinberg faculty have multiple opportunities to get involved in medical student education. The dedicated faculty members who serve on the following medical student committees have a significant impact on the direction of our program and the success of our MD students.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee is charged by the dean of the Feinberg School of Medicine to monitor and evaluate the curriculum, to recommend modifications in content and delivery and to formulate the implementation of undergraduate medical education. The committee meetings occur on the first Wednesday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. Members serve a four-year term on the Curriculum Committee with an option to renew once.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring the quality of medical education at the medical school, including periodic review of programs and courses
  • Reviewing evaluations received from educational leadership, student groups and faculty regarding the curriculum
  • Revising the current curriculum, including implementing new programs, revision of current programs, enhancing student assessment and adopting new curricular standards
  • Monitoring and revising teaching strategies, scheduling and interdisciplinary coordination
  • Reviewing and recommending policies and procedures relevant to undergraduate medical education

Successful Nominee Experience

Interested faculty members should have some experience developing and modifying curricula in undergraduate or graduate medical education.

Student Promotions Committee

The Student Promotions Committee (SPC) is charged by the dean of the Feinberg School of Medicine to review student performance and monitor compliance with academic and behavioral standards. The committee meetings occur on the first Thursday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. Members serve a three-year term on the Student Promotions Committee with an option to renew twice.

Responsibilities

  • Review and recommend policies on academic and non-academic student performance standards.
  • Recommend the promotion and graduation of students who have met the academic and behavioral requirements defined by the medical faculty
  • Review student records and make determinations when:
    • Academic issues arise
    •  Compliance with behavioral standards is questioned or demonstrated
    • A student requests to appeal an academic grade or other evaluation
    • A student requests a leave of absence

Successful Nominee Experience

Interested faculty members should have some experience in performance evaluation of students or trainees.

LCME Quality Improvement Committee

The LCME Quality Improvement Committee is charged by the dean of the Feinberg School of Medicine to monitor relevant policies, procedures and data to ensure ongoing compliance with all LCME accreditation standards. The committee meetings occur on the third Wednesday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and oversee the school’s CQI processes relevant to LCME accreditation
  • Make new recommendations regarding strategic educational priorities and other quality improvement measures to achieve program excellence
  • Review each LCME standard and element in full on a three-year cycle
  • Annually review the detailed CQI plan and make modifications as appropriate

Successful Nominee Experience

Interested faculty members should have some familiarity with the UME curriculum and some experience in educational CQI processes and/or the LCME.

Health Equity Council

The Health Equity Council fosters an environment focused on advancing health equity within the community. Meetings occur quarterly. Members serve a two-year term with an option to renew once.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating conflict resolution to address equity-related challenges
  • Conducting climate surveys to identify areas for improvement in health equity
  • Organizing campus-wide discussions to engage the community in equity-focused dialogue
  • Promoting cross-cultural awareness to reduce barriers and foster understanding
  • Developing educational opportunities to address health inequities and advance healthy equity-driven practices

Our members span the varied experiences and roles within our institution: students, residents, postdoctoral trainees, faculty, administrators and allied health professionals. We're always open to new voices and ideas.
